HELLO all my readers out there !!!
It’s been long since I wrote something or anything. What was I doing if you ask me then here is the answer. I was reading, reading and reading books apart from my usual daily work. Currently I am on maternity leave. Now you can guess how much time I have in my hand for myself. Jokes apart, taking care of an infant is a huge responsibility in the world. I would share that experience in some other post.
So what I was saying !!! Yes. I was reading and doing some research on books, authors, awards, blogging, SEO, again books and so on. Few days back I went to my paternal family house for a small family gathering. While talking to Prachi my cousin simply asked, “Nani (elder sister in Odia language), when did you start reading books, because as far I remember you were not a reader from school days.” I acknowledged her statement and explained to her how and when I started reading, how it has become an integral part of my life over the period and where I am today in the case of reading. Later that day I thought why not document it and share my journey to the world of books with everyone.
It all started during my BTECH period(2010 onwards). Ayush, my younger sibling, was studying in 6th std and got access to the school library. One day he brought “Goosebumps – Legend of the Lost Legend” by R.L. Stine. It is the 47th book of origin Goosebumps series and is based on a horror fiction series meant for school kids. He can keep the book for 15 days, then he needs to return it to his school library and can issue another book. I put my hand on the book and being a newcomer in reading novels or story books in English, I found the cover page very intriguing and started reading. The book is 123 pages long, I won’t lie if i say it took me 3 days to complete just 123 pages which I am not proud of today. Anyway everyone has to start from ground zero. Same goes for me. Once I completed the book, there was no looking back. I had asked him to get me goosebumps every 15 days and I read 16 of them until I started reading novels. The first big novel which I have read is “The Da Vinci Code” by Dan Brown.
Before my BTECH life I never had exposure to reading novels. During my school days we didn’t have a proper library in our school. I used to read all the academic textbooks which were in my primary language Odia(I am very proud of my mother tongue). Of Course we have lots of novels in odia as well. I will explore them some day. I never had a chance to read any novel until my graduation period started. When I found the taste of reading Novels, I didn’t stop.
Till now I have read a total of 71 books. I started a channel on instagram (nicky_books_world) dedicated to my reading activity and reviews on books I read. In the year 2022, I thought I would read 24 books, but ended up with 13 books. This year, in 2023, till August I finished reading 10 books. Isn’t it wonderful ? I found my purpose in life apart from family and office. I will continue reading and reviewing. I would post my thoughts through blogs and make myself available in the internet world.
Reading books is such a blessing. It can improve imagination, can develop sympathy for others, can ease stress and let you live another life apart from your own. It can improve intelligence. We can get vast knowledge about the entire universe. I am contributing my small part among all the readers and planning on reading as many books as possible.
PS – I wrote this last year(2023) during my maternity leave. A bit late to post it though.
