Usually when I log in to my laptop, the first thing I do is go to my blog page and check out the daily writing topic. If I like it I go for it and today’s topic grabbed my attention instantly. Without wasting time I started making mental notes on points to add to the topic “What does freedom mean to you ?”.
Well it means everything to me. This very concept is the essence of my life. Compromising freedom is like compromising on my life. Recently I was reading a book called “Cilka’s Journey” by Heather Morris where it portrays a life of a Holocaust survivor. I was sad and accustomed to the cruelty of human beings as well as I felt thankful for my own country and all those freedom fighters who lost their lives and families just to provide us the freedom to live our lives the way we want. I could never imagine how I would ever survive a brutal inhuman act where survival is the only aim of an individual. Freedom of living a life is the greatest gift anyone ever gets.
I love the fact that I have my own voice and I have my own people who listen to me and value my opinion. It doesn’t matter If I am right or wrong, but my voice is being heard matters the most. Freedom of speech is what lets me convey my worries, concerns, happiness and puts me out of emotional hazard. I would say simply speaking my mind out is keeping me healthy both mentally and physically.
During my school and college days I was brainwashed to wear a certain type of dress not to attract bad people and to maintain a good girl vibe. Though I myself never liked the restriction and idea to listen to something and do it forcefully, still I followed because of fear of losing out more important things in life and guess what a few years later I understood, If I myself is not happy, I can’t make anyone else happy either. Eventually I took drastic decisions to change my lifestyle and start living my life on my own rather than forcing someone else’s opinion. I felt empowered and happy and everything automatically fell into place. Freedom of choice has played an important role in shaping my life.
Freedom lets a person blossom in every aspect. Freedom of money can make you sit on the tallest building on earth without any worry. People say Money can’t buy happiness. I heard in one of interviews where our bollywood king Mr. Shah Rukh Khan said “poor don’t have a choice to say that money can’t buy happiness, money can’t buy happiness only for those who are already rich”. I liked this ideology and working my ass out to achieve my desired position and earn decently to live a happy life. As my husband always says “It is okay to be born poor, but it is not okay to die poor”.
With this I am concluding today’s topic. To answer the topic in simple words, I love my freedom and it has played a huge role in making me the person I am today.
