What are you most proud of in your life?

I’ve always been an ordinary man with an ordinary job, blessed with a loving wife and a bright-eyed son. Like many, the early chapters of my life were heavy with responsibility – arranging my sister’s wedding, supporting my brother’s education, looking after my old parents. Each time payday came around, the money seemed to vanish as soon as it appeared, leaving just enough for our day-to-day.

As years passed, our little boy began to grow. With each passing grade, the school fees seemed to grow with him. But in our home, a secret was guarded closely – the reality of our poor finances. To our son, it seemed we had plenty. And we wanted nothing more than to keep it that way. We wanted him to focus on his dreams, on his studies, free from the worries that weighed on our shoulders. My wife and I shared many silent moments, but always with a smile, hoping it would be mirrored on our son’s face.

In life’s vast canvas, paint with colors you have; what you don’t know won’t shade your masterpiece.

The hands of time never pause, and soon I found myself bidding goodbye to my job. Our once little boy was now a man, living far away, visiting only during short breaks. The house felt emptier, but our hearts were full. We received news of his achievements, his stable job, and eventually about the love of his life. And then came the day when he introduced us to our precious granddaughter.

Today, as I sit back and reflect, there’s no bitterness, only pride. Pride in the success of a son who rose above our circumstances, who now savors life in ways I could only dream of. I wear the badge of a proud father, grateful for the joy in his life that my sacrifices helped carve. Now, in the twilight of my life, I might not have the riches of the world, but I have the wealth of love and memories. And that’s more than enough for me.
