A Free Soul…

At the stroke of 8 PM, the clock’s mechanical whispers filled the air. She stirred from her slumber.  She never slept during this hour of the day.  But today, it was necessary, for a fresh start.  Few hours back she had gone through a breakup over the phone. Strangely she is not miserable, downhearted or despairing.  As her senses danced to life, fully awakened, fully stable and recalling series of events that did happen, she realizes deep within, she had severed ties with him, a truth she kept hidden even from herself. She was not able to move on. An invisible chain held her captive.  When she heard him say “let’s break up” – the unbreakable chain shattered. Her heart is now filled with a strange feeling, is it happiness? Why did she not offer any objection and whole heartedly agreed with him?

She was hiding within the fortress of his captivity. She never got any chance to think on her own.  He was her eyes and her vision never stretched beyond his realm.  Most of her life she just followed him blindly.  The awareness of her own space and opinion had slipped past her. And now she broke free the unbreakable and the invisible. She now has the power to play, to sing and dance one more time, whenever her heart desires and with whoever she chooses. Is it not true freedom?

“The secret to happiness is freedom… And the secret to freedom is courage.” – Thucydides

She tried to embody the image of an ideal girl portrayed in Ekta Kapoor’s daily soaps. Being Independent was always a choice of her, but she ignored it. Now the taste of freedom is sweet. She no longer needs to face nightmare of confinement and slavery. She has her own dream to catch, and she will shape her own path, by her own decisions.

Healthy relationships are those in which both admire each other, both care for each other’s verdict, both have their own opinion and are aware of their personal boundaries. She never had any of these, she was trapped and suffocated by his dominance. Was she not immature to call this Love?

Just as happiness comes after sorrow, just as the sun rises again after sunset, so does the tide of happiness in her life after a period of emotional anguish. She freed her soul and started taking care of herself. She can hear her own voice again. Can you?
